I have written a couple of times about the persistent practice of publishers who hire interns and do not pay them. No ranting today.
But it is a disappointment that the New York Times, which has reported on the practice with a critical eye, continues to use unpaid internships.
This isn’t hypocrisy of the sort seen when Lamar Smith promotes SOPA but fails to give even Creative Commons credit for a photograph used on his web site. As well, what is reported by the Times is not necessarily the same as its business practices.
I just expected more. There may always be a line of people willing to do whatever it takes to work at the Times, but that doesn’t mean that it’s right to not pay them.
