Associations Now recently reported that IEEE is launching a cross-disciplinary open-access journal that it hopes will appeal to researchers whose work does not fit well in traditional journals.
Content for the new journal will be made available without charge. Contributors can pay US$1,750 to ensure unencumbered access to articles that the new journal, IEEE Access, accepts.
There are a lot of competing nuances when it comes to things like open-access, author-pays and the impact of traditional journals. Still, there's good news in an effort to serve an otherwise under-attended audience. I'll have to put my college science hat back on and give the new publication a try.
