Following a summer of spam, we have reduced the window in which comments can be made on posts to 30 days, down from “forever”.
This shouldn’t have too much of an impact on those reading the blog, as most legitimate comments are written in the first few days after a new entry is posted. Nonetheless, we have been reluctant to impose any limits on those who read our work.
We don’t moderate comments, and no one is banned from the site. We do restrict comments from domains that submit spam, doing so only after the spam comments have been reviewed and deleted.
But spam never sleeps. In the two weeks since the last, mind-numbing cleanup, another 30 spam comments were added to literally dozens of older posts. Automatic notices on these spam comments annoy the posters who had previously been kind enough to contribute their own views. The spurious comments also take time to clean up.
If you find yourself reading an older entry and motivated to comment, send an e-mail (the address is listed on the “Contact” tab). We are happy to open up older entries for comment, whenever needed.
