For the last two months, we have been working with the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) on a project that examines how metadata is created, managed, disseminated, modified and used throughout the supply chain.
Over the last several years, BISG has led the development of best-practice guides for both metadata senders and recipients. This project is designed to test how widely those practices are employed.
The study covers both the U.S. and Canadian markets. To date, more than two dozen in-depth interviews have been conducted with publishers, wholesalers, retailers, industry service providers and some digital-only participants.
Earlier this week, BISG opened a survey written to collect information that parallels the in-depth interviews. A link was sent to BISG members, but the survey is open to anyone with an interest in improving how metadata is handled in the book industry supply chain.
The survey can be accessed online and is open until April 20. It should take ten to 15 minutes to complete.
Results of the survey will be included in a presentation at BISG’s “Making Information Pay” conference, to be held May 3 in New York. The results will also be part of a final report that BISG plans to release in June.
