A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the second section of Book: A Futurist's Manifesto, a compilation that Hugh McGuire and I are co-editing. The first section, which consists of seven chapters that describe the environment in which future published works will compete, was released by O'Reilly Media in October.
The second section is being announced this morning at the start of O'Reilly's Tools of Change conference in New York. The nine chapters in the second section address how authors, publishers and readers are evolving their engagement to meet the requirements of this emerging publishing environment.
Contributed by members of our community with unique audience, technical and publishing perspectives, the chapters are both liberating and sobering.
The book is available for downloading now. If you buy an eBook format today for $9.99, you'll also have access to the third and final section when it is published in early spring. And if you hanker for paper, a print version of the full text will be published after the third section is completed.
It has been a privilege and and education to help edit these first two sections. Collected, the chapters for me have the feel of rolling thunder, a sound in the distance that tells you a change is on the way. I hope you'll take a look.
