In the fall of 2009, the National Federation of Advance Information Services (NFAIS) asked me to develop and deliver an overview of the mobile market for a conference and webinar the organization had developed to address the implications of mobile reading.
Since then, I've updated the original presentation for a joint meeting between NFAIS and CENDI. I later delivered an even longer version for the National Information Standards Organization (NISO). The updates are always fun, because the mobile space shifts by the quarter. Understandably, little of the 2009 presentation remains.
On March 16, I'll be opening another NFAIS meeting, "Mobile devices and the delivery of information: An update". The one-day meeting, which will be held in Philadelphia, includes companion presentations from Bob Stein as well as Richard Nash.
I'm also looking forward to hearing from Lee Rainie, Director of the Pew Internet Life Project. Rainie will present their most recent survey results on mobile computing and consumer use of handheld devices.
Registration is now open for the event, which takes place in a very comfortable facility adjacent to Philadelphia's 30th Street train station. I've attended three NFAIS events at which I didn't present, and I have always found the programs worthwhile. If you plan to attend, be sure to introduce yourself or wave hello.
